Women Wear Hard Hats Too

In Spring 2011, we introduced a program tailored to women in the construction field called Women Wear Hard Hats Too. In only 20 weeks, we provide the skills, certification and support you need to be successful in this demanding, but highly rewarding, industry.

Summit's Women Wear Hard Hats Too program is designed to provide female students with job readiness skills in the construction trade through classroom and hands-on training completed in two 10-week phases:
  • Phase I (general classroom industry training)

  • Phase II (hands-on training). Training is administered by journey-level carpentry instructors with more than 70 years of combined experience in the field.

Upon completion of the training program, students will have gained marketable job readiness skills, and are ready to begin a career in the residential and commercial construction industry. Summit also helps students learn how to enter a trade union, which makes workers eligible for additional wages, education and other employment benefits.

We continue to place nearly 100% of our qualified women graduates with successful, growing contractors including the following:

  • American Contractor
  • Zintl Inc.
  • TC Floor Covers Union
  • Mortenson Construction
  • Veit
  • Dean Johnson Exteriors

Summit Academy President and CEO Louis King said, “As for our Women Wear Hard Hats Too program, we found it was especially important to communicate to women that they can succeed in the construction field. In fact, the demand for women in construction is so high that Summit can't train female students fast enough for the industry."

You can become the new face. Be a part of the change. Join our other successful women in the construction field.
