Community Health Worker Program
The Community Health Worker (CHW) Program will prepare you to enter employment in a variety of organizations. CHWs perform a broad range of health related functions, and play an important role in bridging the gap between cultures and health care systems. CHWs work with health care organizations to increase cultural competence, improve access to health care for racial and ethnic minorities, improve the quality of care for the chronically ill, promote healthy communities, and educate families about access to and use of health care coverage. Students will learn the six basic core competencies appropriate to job placement.
Level I Community Health Worker Certificate
The 10-credit Level I CHW Certificate curriculum will combine classroom and field-based learning to create an effective training environment for new learners interested in becoming Community Health Workers. CHWs understand and can act as a culture brokers between their own communities and systems of care. CHWs perform basic health advising and health promotion and link community members to health and social service systems.
Course Length: 10 Weeks for a Level I CHW Certificate (10 credits)
Tuition cost: $2,250.00—Financial aid available to those who qualify.
Level II Community Health Worker Certificate
The 15-credit Level II CHW Certificate is designed for students without any previous health care background who want to be cross-trained in the role of a Nursing Assistant. The Certified Nursing Assistant/Home Health Aide Program teaches students basic care skills and an understanding of the health care system. Students who complete this Level II CHW Certificate are eligible for the State of Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.
Course Length: 15 Weeks for a Level II CHW Certificate (15 credits)
Tuition cost: $3,375.00—Financial aid available to those who qualify.
Level III Community Health Worker Certificate
The 20-credit Level III CHW Certificate is designed for students without any previous health care background who want to be cross-trained in the role of a Nursing Assistant. This program builds on the 15-credit Level II CHW Certificate by teaching the student fundamentals of English grammar, medical terminology, interpersonal communication, Microsoft Office, math, and keyboarding. This certificate gives students the knowledge, technical skills and business standards required for obtaining jobs and career advancement in health care settings.
Course Length: 20 Weeks for a Level III CHW Certificate (20 credits)
Tuition cost: $4,500.00—Financial aid available to those who qualify.
