Student Policies
Attendance
When you enroll at SAOIC, your goal is to gain a skill for employment and career development. In order to attain that goal, good attendance is necessary and is of primary importance to employers.
Class Schedule
Classes are scheduled from 8:30 AM to 12:10 PM and from 12:40 PM to 3:05 PM, Monday through Friday. Students must maintain full-time enrollment, and no credit will be received until all required coursework is completed. Attendance is taken at the beginning of each class, and monthly attendance awards are given to students during student assemblies. A student may be tardy five times in a specific class before they are counted absent for that class. The class schedule is:
Attendance Warning and Probation
Students must maintain 92% attendance during their 20-week term. A student may not miss more than four days in any class during the first 10 weeks of their semester. Students that may need to miss more than the allotted number of days will be encouraged to withdraw from school. If a student has missed more than four days of any individual class, the student will be issued a termination letter, and offered an opportunity to write an appeal and go before the Absentee Committee, where an assessment of the student's attendance, progress and level of class participation will be discussed. During the Absentee Committee meeting a decision will be made to determine retention or expulsion of the student in question. Students are responsible for getting missed assignments and additional help outside of regular class time. On extreme and rare occasions, students may be granted an exemption to this policy through a written request to their Vocational Counselor.
Drinking, Eating and Smoking
Eating and drinking are only allowed in the student activity center, where vending machines offer beverages, sandwiches and snacks. NO EATING OR DRINKING IS ALLOWED IN THE CLASSROOMS. SAOIC is a smoke-free facility. All smoking must take place outdoors in designated smoking areas. There is no smoking in front of the building.
