| | | | SAOIC is an educational institution and each student is held accountable for his or her behavior as it relates to the freedom, rights, and safety of others or affects the learning atmosphere. Specific unacceptable behaviors will serve as a basis for expulsion. These include possession or use of alcohol or illicit substances; disorderly or disruptive conduct; physical assault; threat of physical assault, harassment or sexual harassment; theft or attempted theft; vandalism or willful property damage; trespassing or failure to heed a lawful order; violation of the dress code; academic dishonesty and fraud or willful misrepresentation. Immediate expulsion would be deemed appropriate in the case of imminent danger to others. Academic dishonesty will result in immediate failure of the assignment, with expulsion after repeat activity. Children of students are not permitted in the classroom or in the testing areas. All children in the building (for short periods of time only) must be attended to at all times by an adult. There is to be no loitering in the lobby area between classes, as that area is the first point of contact for any school business to be conducted. | | Our appearance code reflects that typically found in a businesses setting. Students are expected to dress neatly and as professionally as possible. Fridays are casual days. Good personal hygiene is mandatory. The following code governs acceptable appearance and attire:
UNACCEPTABLE APPEARANCE & ARTICLES
- No headgear (hats, plastic caps, rollers, sweatbands); no excessive piercings; no walkmans or radios, etc. Hats or headdresses worn for religious reasons are acceptable.
- No sleeveless, halter, belly, tank tops, or other clothing exposing the shoulders, back, stomach, chest area.
- No transparent clothing or lycra-type exercise pants.
- No pants worn below the waist; a belt must accompany loose fitting jeans.
CARPENTRY SPECIFIC CODE
- Shirts must be tucked into pants; no shorts are allowed.
- Must have protective BOOTS, not shoes (not required to wear steel toed boots).

| | Summit Academy OIC (SAOIC) is a drug-free school. It is the policy of SAOIC that the unlawful use, possession, transfer or sale of substances, including marijuana, other illegal drugs, prescription drugs or other controlled substances by any student or employee on company premises, operating on company business or conducting company business is prohibited. Use of alcohol on school premises is strictly prohibited. There is zero tolerance for drugs anywhere on school property. Violations of this policy will result in disciplinary action up to and including expulsion.Definitions of substances are as follows:
DRUG—means any controlled or other substance defined in the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970, Title 2, as amended, commonly know as the Controlled Substance Act (CSA), Schedule I-V (21 U.S.C § 812). Drug also means any controlled or other substance other than alcohol that is capable of altering the mood, pain level, judgment, or perception of the person consuming it. It also includes any fake drug sold under the pretext or misrepresentation that it is a drug. It includes intoxicants other than alcohol.
ALCOHOL—means any substance containing alcohol. This includes items advertised as alcohol-free containing a small amount of alcohol. It also includes items, whether liquid or solid, that contains alcohol even though not sold for human consumption or as a licensed alcoholic beverage or intoxicant. | | Students may bring cellular phones; however, they cannot be used during class time or in the hallway. They must be used either in the Front lobby or the activity center/cafeteria. Pagers must be non-audible, and the student must answer the page during passing or break times. For student convenience, a pay phone is located adjacent to the student activity center. | |
