Life at Summit
Summit Academy is a community of students, instructors, and staff. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and ready to learn. We encourage you to get to know other students — you may be working with them in the future! Our dedicated instructors and staff are here to help you on your educational journey.
Many students enjoy studying at our Activity Center. The room also doubles as a hub where students can hang out, grab some food and also gives them a chance to get to know each other better. As a bonus, you will most likely see some of our instructors hanging around, which is a great opportunity to pick their brains.
The prayer room is available for use of all students and staff. It is a place for prayer, worship, reflection and meditation for all faith groups.
Located in the main building of Summit Academy in conference room 2 (take a left as you enter the main lobby), the prayer room is open 12–1 p.m. If you need access to a prayer space at a different time during the day, contact Director of Student Services Miriam Williams and we will try to accommodate your request. No food or drink is allowed in this space.
Words from our graduates
“My soul is crying that I am done and gone. I love this place. I grew so much as a person. Ms. Landin and Mr. B motivated me and challenged me in so many ways. I am so thankful for them.”
Imani C. Scott
“Summit is a great place to start or start over. Each and every teacher there has a passion to help you succeed. Not just the passion to teach. You will learn, you will experience, you will grow, and you will succeed when you come to Summit Academy OIC. It all starts with you!”
Reithen Satire Curtis
“If you’re serious about change, this is a place to be. I have had four great job offers since I recently graduated. Believe this… you only get what you put into it! The electrician program is excellent.”
Students are able to eat, gather, and study with one another before, during, and after school. The Summit Cafe, located in the Activity Center, offers affordable breakfast and lunch Monday-Friday. Snacks and beverages are also available throughout the day from the vending machines in the Activity Center.
On most Wednesdays, all students have the opportunity to participate in enrichment activities that support their emotional, physical, occupational, and financial wellness. Wellness Wednesdays activities are held during student break times and include topics like self-defense classes, financial literacy, test-taking strategies, and access to community resources in and around Minneapolis. The Wellness Wednesday schedule is shared on campus during new student orientation.
Summit Academy has three computer labs on campus with printing capabilities that are available to students before and after school and/or during school hours when not in use by instructors or testing.
