The Future is Now

Join Summit Academy’s game-changing Northside STEM movement to propel low-income communities of color out of poverty, strengthen and diversify the Twin Cities workforce and grow Minnesota’s economy. Over the next year, Northside STEM will provide training for 125 adults and over 5,000 children in gaming, coding, cyber-security, robotics and IT support services jobs. Northside STEM prepares the youth and workers of today with the skills needed for the jobs of the future.

In partnership with Minneapolis based IT firm, Atomic Data, Summit Academy’s pilot IT training program moved graduates from earning an average of $12,000 per year to an average of $36,000+ per year. IT is a rapidly growing industry with high demand for entry-level workers in positions that don’t require a college degree and offer incredible career advancement opportunities. Studies show that jobs in STEM fields remain among the highest paying for those who have completed both GED and short-term training.

Northside STEM builds a pipeline of workers that will succeed in a rapidly expanding career field that has no boundaries. Programming engages children in early, hands-on experience with STEM learning. Younger children are introduced to games and toys that expose them to coding and robotics fundamentals. Older children and young adults participate in math and gaming competitions providing a fun environment for the application of critical concepts.

Technology is at the core of this movement and provides a pathway to address the economic and educational challenges facing our community. In collaboration with employer partners, local educational institutions, businesses, and philanthropists, North Minneapolis will become the epicenter for STEM training in Minnesota. By addressing the needs of young learners and the technology needs of employers, Northside STEM is preparing workers of the future for the jobs of the future.
