Service Desk Technician

How did you hear about Summit?
My mom sent me a link about Summit [and] I decided I would give it a try. I applied, passed the entrance exam and started in the IT program soon after.

What program are you studying at Summit and why?
I am in the IT program. When I was growing up, I used to love playing with the computer; it felt natural. Now, technology is a growing industry, there are always going to be new initiatives and an opportunity for me to learn. I think it will be cool being on the back end of these new initiatives.

What is the most important skill you learned?
The instructors have taught me confidence. They continue to push me for success. In all my years of education I have never had teachers that care so much for students on a personal level, as well as their education.

What is your career goal?
To be comfortable and provide for a future family. Growing up, I had a rough childhood and this is something that I didn’t have and want to have moving forward. I don’t necessarily have a job title in mind, but I do know that I want to enjoy my job while helping others. I want to make enough money to provide for my family.

How does attending Summit Academy make you feel?
I feel better than I did before starting Summit. I was lost. I knew I couldn’t afford college. By having such engaged instructors and shorter programs, it is really empowering. I know when I finish my program at Summit I will have a great job and, more so, a career. I would have never thought I could have these thoughts before Summit.

How has your experience changed you?
I have learned how to be more compassionate to others who are different from me. I think outside of my own perspective.

What advice do you have for those interested in Summit Academy?
Go for it, apply to Summit! You don’t know what will happen unless you try.

After Graduation

We got to sit down with Angel after graduation and she shared what she is doing after completing her program. She has had a complete transformation on her life, mostly on her confidence. Summit gave Angel more than a career.
